Years back I did a study on the word “save” and “salvation” in regards to Jesus’ death on the cross and what that meant to me as a believer. What I discovered was so encouraging and exciting that I would like to share it with you.
We as Christians are thankful everyday for the fact that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins. But what does it mean to be saved? If you ask most Christians they will say that it means their sins have been forgiven and they’re going to heaven when their time is up here on earth and they’re right. Salvation is an awesome gift and just to know we are heaven bound should be enough but God is so much more all-inclusive than that.
In Matthew 1:21 it states: And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins
And again, in Matthew 18:11, it says: For the son of man is come to save that which was lost.
Now, the Greek word for save is sozo which means to save, i.e. deliver or protect, heal, preserve, do well, be made whole. We can see from this that when Jesus “saved” us from our sins we can insert any of the above words into Matthew 18:11 and it’s a true statement. (Replace your name for the part “that which was lost” for greater emphasis.)
For the son of man is come to deliver that which was lost.
For the son of man is come to protect that which was lost.
For the son of man is come to heal that which was lost.
For the son of man is come to preserve that which was lost, and
For the son of man is come to make whole that which was lost.
The same is true for Romans 10:10 which states: For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation
The Greek for salvation is soteria which means: to rescue, deliverance, health, salvation, save, saving. If we replace any of those words with salvation in Romans 10:10 you can see that Jesus’ death on the cross was much more than just a mere rescue of our spiritual souls upon our death. His death was also for our “now” so we can have victory everyday, not just when we die.
So we see that sozo is salvation-all encompassing. It has us covered physically and spiritually. God has truly delivered us from the enemy; body, mind, soul and spirit. Everything we ever needed to live life abundantly and victoriously was accomplished for us over 2,000 years ago at Calvary!
One of my favorite songs has a verse in it that goes like this: “Every healing you don’t claim means He hung there in vain so come trust Him that in you He might be glorified.”
What healing do you need today?
Physical? Sozo - healing and health.
Spiritual? Sozo - deliverance and protection.
Mental? Sozo - healing and deliverance.
Soul? Sozo - salvation, the greatest gift of all, but as you can see the minute you are “saved” it is only just the beginning to some wonderful promises that God wants us to have today.
Come trust Him. |
