| Walleye Fever! |

Recently I was up at our cabin, fishing with a good friend of mine.
We'd been fishing for nearly 3 hours on a cold and windy Saturday evening, hoping to catch a few walleye. The cold finally caught up with my buddy, and he decided to go in. But I wasn't ready to give up my walleye hunt!
I decided to pray aloud for a walleye, so that's exactly what I did, right then and there on the lake. I specifically asked the Lord to bless me with one walleye - just one and I'd be satisfied with the day's efforts.
...But what were the chances? We'd been out for hours without having caught a thing, my minnows were dead, and, I'm admittedly not much of a walleye fisherman to begin with. I usually fish for bass and northern, and in fact, I'd just caught my first "intentional" walleye the day before!
So anyhow, I picked an area to drift along, and back and forth I went over this particular stretch of lake. I'd let the wind carry me for about 5 minutes, then I'd circle the boat back around and drift again over the same general area...
For a good 45 minutes or so, nothing! It was completely dark by then, my hands were freezing, and I'd just about had it, so I said, "Lord, this is my absolute last drift and after that I'm headed in for the night, so if you're going to grant me that walleye, now's the time!"
Now, we're ideally supposed to love God for who He is and what He's *already* done for us, moreso than what He does on a daily basis. But at moments like this, He sure makes it hard!...
On that very last run, that final 5 minute drift, after hours of walleye fishing with absolutely nothing to show for it, I caught my walleye! A perfect 2 pound keeper.
Thank you Lord!!
Once again, God shows that he cares about even the smallest details in our lives. He also shows us that He rewards us for persistence! He heard my prayer out in the middle of the lake on that cold and windy night, He witnessed my persistence, and He rewarded me as a result! |
