The Secret Is No Secret At All
Unless you've been living under a rock somewhere, by now you've heard of Rhonda Byrne's best selling book, "The Secret".

The Secret is based on an age-old theory called the "Law of Attraction". The theory states that if you think good thoughts and "send out" positivity, you will attract good things and positive events into your life. Conversely, if you think negative thoughts, you will attract negative circumstances.

There is of course a degree of truth to that concept, but not because of any mysterious metaphysical reason. Logically and psychologically, if you're confident in yourself and your abilities - if you believe that you can achieve what you set your mind to - you're more likely to achieve what you've set forth to do. As the old saying goes, "If you think you CAN, you're right. If you think you CAN'T, you're also right."

These simple principles are not secrets, but rather, Biblical truths! The Bible tells us to "Take every *thought* captive to the obedience of Christ." And we're advised to TRUST the Lord in every step and aspect of our lives. Thus as Christians, we're instructed to think positively, and in accordance with God's will.

"The Secret" implies that as we think positively, we're sending "waves into the universe" that attract to ourselves things on a similar wavelength or vibration. Such a proposition sounds ridiculous to most rational individuals, but could it really be true?

Absolutely not! Such an implication is a deception of new age philosophy. New age teaching would have us believe that we're all gods in a sense, and as such, that we control everything that happens to us. I.e., if something bad happens to me, it's because I sent bad vibrations into the universe (with my negative thinking) and thus attracted that bad thing to me.

It's time for a reality check, and a big dose of the common sense that God gave each of us! We ALL go through trials and suffering at various times in our lives. Those who believe in "The Secret" still grieve over loved ones who die. No matter how positive, they still face eventual death themselves. They still deal with sickness and injury. They still have trouble in their jobs and daily lives.

This is not to discredit the power of the amazing minds that God gave us. Stress and anxiety, much of which comes from the way we think about certain situations and circumstances, can certainly lead to illness. Putting our trust in the Lord and offering our burdens up to Him (as the Bible instructs), is the ONLY sure way to true joy and peace. God revealed this truth in His word, thousands of years ago. As such, it's no secret at all!

Rhonda Byrne hasn't discovered anything new. Rather, she's twisted and repackaged the everlasting truth and promise of God's Word in such a way that her "followers" are giving credit to *themselves* for the good things that happen in their lives - rather than to the deserving ONE TRUE CREATOR GOD!

If we were able to save ourselves from our sin and suffering, Jesus Christ wouldn't have had to die on the cross! The truth is, we can't save ourselves. We aren't gods. Jesus Christ sacrificed himself for you and I, that we may be saved and have eternal life.

While "The Secret" says that any religion is acceptable, the Bible warns that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life - that nobody comes to the Father but by Him! There is only one path to eternal life, and that is through Jesus Christ. "The Secret" can't save you. Jesus is the answer!

My advice is this: Continue to think positively. Use the mind that God gave you. Believe that you CAN. Have confidence in the abilities and talents that God graciously gave you, and don't let them go to waste. Trust the Lord 100% in the hard times, and offer your burdens up to Him. And in the good times? ...Give ALL the credit, and ALL the glory to Jesus Christ!
