Though Your Sins Be As Scarlet
I'm in awe right now. In fact, I've been in a state of sheer disbelief for the last month or so. It's strange, really, how so many things I've known all my life in my head suddenly take on new meaning when it enters the heart.

I got to thinking, while driving home from work, how amazing the forgiveness is that we have through Jesus Christ. The descriptive nature of the Word of God gives us some beautiful images of this:

Isa 1:18-20
18 "Come now, let us reason together,"
says the LORD.
"Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.
19 If you are willing and obedient,
you will eat the best from the land;
20 but if you resist and rebel,
you will be devoured by the sword."
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
-NIV

Then we see a fulfillment of this in Christ's crucifixion:
Matt 27:27-28
Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him,
-NIV

Amazing! Here is a physical representation of Christ taking our sins upon Himself. The most beautiful thing is the image we get later on of the resurrected Christ:
Rev 1:12-14

12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was someone "like a son of man," dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire.
-NIV

But it doesn't end there, because this is followed up with a promise to us:
Rev 3:4-5
Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. 5 He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels. -NIV

I tell you what, the more I see of Christ, the more in love with Him I am. How can you not fall in love with a God so willing to do everything possible to allow us to be saved, despite all we've done to turn our backs on Him?

I'm moved to tears by such a picture, and am beginning more and more to have a deep desire to see others set free by this Love that goes beyond my understanding.

Isa 49:8-13
This is what the LORD says:

"In the time of my favor I will answer you,
and in the day of salvation I will help you;
I will keep you and will make you
to be a covenant for the people,
to restore the land
and to reassign its desolate inheritances,
9 to say to the captives, 'Come out,'
and to those in darkness, 'Be free!'

"They will feed beside the roads
and find pasture on every barren hill.
10 They will neither hunger nor thirst,
nor will the desert heat or the sun beat upon them.
He who has compassion on them will guide them
and lead them beside springs of water.
11 I will turn all my mountains into roads,
and my highways will be raised up.
12 See, they will come from afar--
some from the north, some from the west,
some from the region of Aswan."

13 Shout for joy, O heavens;
rejoice, O earth;
burst into song, O mountains!
For the LORD comforts his people
and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.
